ONGD17

Oman National Geodetic Datum (ONGD17)

The main objective of enhancing national geodetic control is to create homogenous horizontal survey control for the country. Realization of an Oman National Geodetic Datum (ONGD17) provides GNSS user community with modern surveying infrastructure. The horizontal control (2D) has been strengthened through the enhancement of the existing geodetic control network facility including the Continuous Operating Reference Stations (CORS) in Oman called as OmanCORSnet (www.omarcorsnet.gov.om).

The main objective for establishment of ONGD17 is based on the latest released ITRF2014 solution The task involves:

  • Checking on the quality of existing network of the first and second order GPS control stations.
  • Carrying out supervisory work on longer GNSS geodetic session campaign at thirty-nine (39) common stations throughout the country.
  • GPS processing of precise baselines computation using newly released BERNESE Version 5.2 scientific software has been carried out.
  • To carry out a nation-wide combined network adjustment of common station coordinates in latest solution of ITRF2014 frame epoch 2017 (ITRF2014@2017).
  • Finally, estimation of seven (7) transformation parameters from ITRF2014@2017 to existing ITRF89 (WGS84) system.


 

This datum has already been introduced in latest version of ESRI ArcGIS suite. Else, users can apply following 7 parameters to carry out transformation from ONGD17 to WGS84 or vice-versa.
