Best Governmental Project 2017
The Government Innovation Initiative is established to support innovation and creativity in government entities providing effective proposals that contribute in finding innovative solutions to enhance the governmental performance and increase its efficiency in various fields.
The initiative aims to reduce time and effort required to provide a service while maintaining the highest standards of quality and effectiveness.
This is fulfilled by using unconventional patterns and emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, IoT, Cloud Computing, Virtual Reality Applications and other procedures that are considered a paradigm shift in supporting advanced governmental performance.
In 2017, NSA received this award along with a certificate of proficiency in the best governmental project, the national network of Permanent Stations (Oman CORS Net)
Drainage Rehabilitation and Wastewater Management 2015
The 2nd annual Drainage Rehabilitation & Waste Water Management conference was held at the InterContinental Hotel in Muscat, Oman from 7-8 Sept 2015
Over 150 international and regional drainage, waste water and flood control experts joined the key representatives from Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources, Muscat Municipality, Haya Water, National Survey Authority – Ministry of Defence.
The conference explored several sub-themes such as-
- Presenting the current drainage and waste water infrastructure projects in the Sultanate.
- Discussing the role of GIS technology in evaluating and maintaining drainage systems
- Analysing the different solutions for rehabilitating the current drainage infrastructure in Oman
- Avoiding flash floods by preventing runoffs through an efficient drainage system

AMADEE 2018
In February 2018, the Austrian Space Forum – in partnership with the Oman National Steering Committee for AMADEE-18 – conducted a highly international Mars analog field simulation in the Dhofar region, Oman. The Sultanate of Oman is a valuable and highly supportive partner of the AMADEE-18 mission. The desert of Dhofar provides the perfect test area for emulating a mission to the extreme living conditions found on Mars
The Kepler Station infrastructure was provided in most parts by the Petroleum Development of Oman (PDO), including substantial logistics and security support of the Oman Ministry of Defense, in particular the Navy and the Air Force.
The tests site was closed off to the public within a perimeter of 5km from the Kepler Station.
NSA won this award as an appreciation for hosting simulation program to depict the life on Mars.
Oman Geospatial Forum 2015
The 3rd edition of the Oman Geospatial Forum took place at Sultan Qaboos University in Muscat during 23rd -24th November 2015. The National Survey Authority was the co-organiser of this extremely significant event.
The theme for this event was “Geo-Enabling Oman” which meant increasing the quality of Human life through well defined, future driven and sustainable infrastructure development using Geospatial Technology.
The forum concluded on a successful note and witnessed the convergence of key stakeholders from the geospatial industry across Oman. Over the two days, the conference deliberated on the ways in which geospatial technology can offer a unique advantage to various user agencies to tackle various challenges faced by them.
The event also proved to be a great business development initiative as it served to be a networking platform for the industry, end users, policy makers and academia. The event was attended by over 750 delegates and visitors.
NSA won the Best Exhibitor Award in this forum for showcasing its products and services and also launching the new tourist map of Nizwa.
Oman Geospatial Forum 2017
The 4th edition of the Oman Geospatial Forum took place at Oman International Convention Centre in Muscat during 10th & 11th April 2017. The National Survey Authority was the co-organizer of this extremely significant event.
The theme for this event was “Geosmart Empowering Economic Development in Oman”.
Over the course of these two days, 800+ delegates representing 17 countries took part in the conference. The opening session witnessed participation of over 50 high profile senior executives from the Government of Oman and Guest countries.
The highlight for the Opening Session was the presence of His Excellency Dr. Ali Bin Masoud Al-Sunaidi, Minister of Commerce & Industry as the Chief Guest. Ambassador of India to Sultanate of Oman, Indra Mani Pandey and Dr YVN Krishnamurthy, Director of National Remote Sensing Agency of India were the other guests on the occasion
The office of the governor in Muscat Governorate extended its appreciation towards NSA by honoring it with this award for successful conduct of this forum.
Geospatial World Forum Awards
Geospatial World Forum is a collaborative and interactive platform, which demonstrates collective and shared vision of the global geospatial community. It is an annual gathering of geospatial professionals and leaders representing the entire geospatial ecosystem. This comprises of public policies, national mapping agencies, private sector enterprises, multilateral and development organizations, scientific and academic institutions, and above all end users from government, businesses, and citizen services.
In GWF 2015, held in Lisbon Portugal, NSA won this award in recognition of its model implementation of the spatial geography programs and policies while implementing ONGD 14.
IN GWF 2017, held in Hyderabad India, NSA again bagged the “Geospatial World Excellence Award 2016” for its national strategic project “Establishment and implementation of Oman National Geoid Model”, OMANGEOID.
Geospatial World Excellence Award is an internationally acclaimed private award recognizing exemplary innovations and practices in the global geospatial industry.
