Oman Geospatial Manual

Oman Geospatial Manual

In order to facilitate the production of harmonised geospatial data, a consistent approach to surveying, geospatial data and the use of common data standards is essential. The Oman Geospatial Manual provides the geospatial community within the Sultanate of Oman with the information it needs to undertake accurate survey and produce accurate, consistent and compatible geospatial data.

It details the national policy for surveying and geospatial data. It details the international and national standards and specification for the creation of geospatial data. It is intended as a reference guide for all government and private sector organisations involved in the collection, maintenance and dissemination of geospatial data in the Sultanate of Oman.

The Manual has been created by NSA in conjunction with other government geospatial data providers, including the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), the Oman National Spatial Strategy group (ONSS), Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning (MOHUP) and Muscat Municipality (MM). The Manual presents policy and guidelines for surveying and the creation of geospatial data, as well as defining the national standards and specification for surveying and geospatial data creation. It is intended as a guide for those organisations within the Sultanate of Oman that undertake surveying activity and produce geospatial data. Surveyors and geospatial data providers can identify the subjects and specific content within the Manual that is relevant to their work and use it as a supporting guide.

The Manual is available online and in printed format from the National Survey Authority (NSA). It is divided into three sections: Introduction, Policy, Standards and Specifications.

The Oman Geospatial Manual is intended to be a ‘living’ document that will be continuously reviewed to align with international common standards and technology developments. The responsibility for maintaining the currency of the Oman Geospatial Manual sits with the National Survey Authority (NSA). However, the Manual belongs to the geospatial community as a whole, and they are actively encouraged to contribute to the content of the Manual.
